Hal Elrod demonstrates how to accept responsibility for your life and improve it one morning at a time in The Miracle Morning: The Not-So-Obvious Secret Guaranteed to Transform Your Life (Before 8 AM). Hal demonstrates how to increase your daily energy, motivation, and attention so that you may take action and live up to your potential.
At the age of 20, Hal Elrod nearly passed away in 1999. He was struck twice while travelling along the highway. Hal had a 6-minute heart arrest, 11 bone fractures, and brain damage. He came out of his coma six days later to learn that he would probably never walk again. At the age of 30, Hal had not only learned to walk once again but also to train for a 52-mile ultramarathon. He was also a successful businessman, public speaker, and author.
First chapter : “It’s Time To Wake Up To Your Full Potential”
The average American is 20 pounds overweight, has less than one close friend, is $10,000 in debt, is mildly depressed, and dislikes their job. “How do you feel? Do you realise your full potential and achieve the levels of success you genuinely desire in every aspect of your life? Are you prepared to stop striving and begin living your best life? ”
You should aim for living your best life while evaluating your level of contentment, success, and satisfaction in any area of your life (Level 10 Life). On a scale of 0 to 10, you should aim to give each area a rating of 10. And it all begins with how you get out of bed every morning.
The following three ideas are the basis of The Miracle Morning:
As any other individual, you are as capable as they are of achieving and maintaining amazing health, riches, happiness, love, and success in your life. The quality of your life, as well as the lives of your family, friends, and community, depends on having this perspective.
You must first commit time each day to developing into the person who is qualified and capable of obtaining the achievement you want in order to quit settling and to achieve the levels of success you seek.
Your levels of success in each and every area of your life are significantly influenced by the way you wake up each morning and your daily routine (or lack thereof). Changing your morning routine can improve every aspect of your life and encourage you to take action.
The Miracle Morning: How Will It Change Your Life?
You will gain the following common advantages from putting your Miracle Morning into practise:
Become more energised, enthusiastic, and empowered when you awaken.
Take steps to lessen your life’s stress.
Conquer any issues, challenges, or limiting beliefs standing in your way.
To reduce weight and get in the greatest form, improve your health.
Become more productive and concentrate on your top objectives.
Feel thankful, fulfilled, and less anxious.
Earn more money and become really wealthy.
Find your vision and purpose and live according to them.
Stop accepting less than you deserve and want.
Second Chapter : “The Miracle Morning Origin: Born Out Of Desperation”
Hal Elrod talks about how the Morning changed the course of his entire life. After almost losing his life in a vehicle accident, he fell into a deep debt, and he also suffered from acute despair. Then, everything abruptly changed one morning when he went for a run and realised he had to take charge of his life.
Hal Elrod decided to devote himself to his personal growth first thing in the morning in order to have direction, drive, and inspiration for the remainder of the day. He selects the most powerful exercises, affirmations, journaling, visualisation, reading, and meditation. A few years later, Hal Elrod would pen The Miracle Morning, which would spark a global movement encouraging individuals to begin each day with personal growth.
Third Chapter : “The 95% Reality Check”
The fight we all face is to rise above mediocrity and realise our full potential. While about 95% will accept less and struggle, the remaining 5% will be financially successful and living free lives.
What can we do right away to prevent struggling, as the majority of people will (95%) do?
Realize that 95% of our population will lead average lives since many of them are in poor physical condition, struggle with depression, have tense interpersonal connections, and are heavily indebted.
Recognize the reasons the ordinary individual leads a mediocre life, which may be due to a lack of urgency, personal development, accountability, or quality people.
Draw a Line in the Sand: Commit to living an intentional life beginning right now. Decide not to settle for mediocrity. You can have the vitality, love, health, happiness, success, and wealth you need to live a full life.
Fourth Chapter : “Why Did You Wake Up This Morning?”
Most individuals drag themselves out of bed after being awakened by a grating alarm clock and would prefer to stay in bed. You lose when you “snooze,” since you are fighting against life. Instead, you will develop the clarity, energy, and determination need to move forward in life when you wake up with a purpose and passion.
According to experts, a person’s need for sleep varies depending on their age, genetics, general health, degree of activity, etc. Hal Elrod writes in The Miracle Morning that “we require as much sleep as we feel we need.” What you tell yourself before going to bed will determine whether you feel like you slept well when you get up.
Fifth chapter : “The 5-Step Snooze-Proof Wake Up Strategy”
Nobody genuinely enjoys waking up early, but everyone loves the feeling of having done so. If you have low wake-up motivation, there are five simple steps you can take to make it easier to wake up each day:
- According to a proverb, “Your first thought in the morning is frequently your last thought before night.” Take responsibility and make a decision to make the next day truly exciting before you go to sleep.
- Keep Your Alarm Clock in the Same Place: If you relocate your alarm clock, you’ll inevitably get out of bed and walk across the room to switch it off.
- Clean Your Teeth: Go straight to the bathroom, brush your teeth, and rinse your mouth with an antiseptic mouthwash.
- A full glass of water should be had before bed because sleeping might cause moderate dehydration. Fill up a container with water before going to bed and place it somewhere convenient.
- Set up pre-recorded motivational alarm clock messages (MyWakeUPCalls) to help you wake up each day with a positive outlook.
Sixth Chapter: The Life SAVERS: The Six Powerful Practices
The majority of us live on the wrong side of the Potential Gap, which is the difference between who we are and who we could be. When you make changes in your life, your situation will improve:
Life is your internal world, which consists of the attitudes and mindsets that give you the ability to change and improve your life situation. The external world of circumstances, events, people, and places that surround us is referred to as our life situation. Six personal development tools are provided by Hal Elrod. Life SAVERS will assist you in closing the Potential Gap, becoming the best version of yourself, and improving your life situation. As it is your Miracle Morning, try out different Life SAVERS tool sequences.
- S- Silence
- A- Affirmations
- V- Visualization
- E- Exercise
- R- Reading
- S- Scribing
S- Silence
Many people have stressful or sluggish mornings, which are both undesirable ways to begin the day. Instead, practice silence to alleviate stress, increase self-awareness, and gain clarity:
Silence – the intentional “kind of quiet, clearness, and peace of mind that allows you to concentrate on what’s most important in your life”
Spend at least five minutes in silence doing one or more of the following:
- Meditation – simply a period of silence or concentration on the mind.
- Prayer – requesting assistance or expressing gratitude to God or a higher power
- Reflecting– Consider your ideas, thoughts, or objective.
- Deep Breathing- entails taking long, sustained breaths in and out.
- Gratitude – express gratitude or appreciation for people, opportunities, etc.
Remember that there is no one way to spend your silence time that is correct.
A- Affirmations
Many people have internal dialogues for what they tell themselves. These affirmations can either work against us, causing us to struggle, or they can work for us, resulting in success:
Affirmation – It is an internal dialogue that “allows you to design and then develop the mindset (thoughts, beliefs, and focus) that you need to take any area of your life to the next level.”
Your affirmations will help you overcome your limiting beliefs and bad habits by transforming your internal thoughts and feelings. Using these five steps, you can change your programming and create affirmations:
- What You Actually Want: Write down your ideal life vision, including the areas you want to improve, such as health, wealth, relationships, mindset, and so on.
- Why You Desire It: Explain why each aspect of your vision is important to you in order to create a compelling purpose.
- Who Are You Committed To Being In Order To Create It: Determine your identity or who you need to be and commit to it.
- What you intend to do to achieve it: Clarify your actions or what needs to be done in terms of frequency, quantification, and timeframe.
- Incorporate Inspiring Quotes and Philosophies: When you come across an empowering quote or strategy, include it in your affirmations.
Affirmations become more effective when they are combined with physical activity, adapted to changing circumstances, and read on a regular basis.
V- Visualization
Many people will reimagine their past failures and setbacks. Instead, visualization will assist you in living in accordance with your affirmations:
Visualization is defined as “the practice of attempting to generate positive outcomes in your outer world by using your imagination to create mental pictures of specific behaviors and outcomes that occur in your life.”
Create mental visualizations to help you take action toward a bright future. Begin with five minutes of visualization using the following three steps:
- Prepare to be at ease: Close your eyes and clear your mind as you stand tall.
- Visualize What You Really Want: Describe in detail your major goals, outcomes, and dreams. Then, visualize yourself achieving your goals and achieving your desired outcomes.
- Visualize Your Identity and Actions: Imagine yourself in your affirmed identity (who you need to be) and taking the necessary steps.
Visualization will help you align your thoughts and feelings with your vision so you can act on it. Create a Vision Board, which is defined as “a poster board on which you post images of what you want to have, who you want to become, what you’re about to do, where you would like to live, etc.”
E- Exercise
Miracle Morning exercise “significantly improves your health, boosts your self-confidence and emotional well-being, and allows you to think better and concentrate for longer periods of time.” Regular morning exercise will help you stay in shape and boost your energy levels throughout the day. Hal Elrod recommends working out for at least 10-20 minutes every day. He expressly advises practice yoga, which incorporates stretching, resistance, cardio, deep breathing, and meditation.
R- Reading
Morning reading allows you to gain knowledge, learn ideas, and model strategies from some of the world’s most intelligent and successful people. Reading on a regular basis will improve your knowledge, confidence, and skills.
Hal Elrod suggests reading at least 10 pages, or 10-30 minutes, of a self-improvement book every day. You will read about a 300-page book per month for a year. When selecting books, consider what you will gain from them. Then, commit to finishing and acting on what you’ve learned. Reread the best books later to deepen your understanding and achieve mastery.
S- Scribing
Scribing is just another word for writing. Journaling, in particular, is recommended by Hal Elrod for your Miracle Morning because it accelerates your results and has the following advantages:
- Clear Your Mind: Get thoughts out of your head so you can focus on the day’s priorities, goals, and actions.
- Clarity: Distil your thoughts in order to gain a better understanding and clarity to help you work through issues and important decisions.
- Ideas for Capture: Extend and gather your ideas and thoughts so you don’t lose them and can act on them later.
- Review Lessons: Go over the lessons you learned the day before to help you make better decisions in the future.
- Recognize Your Progress: Review your accomplishments and progress from the previous day to inspire and build confidence to keep going.
- Gratitude: Be grateful for the opportunities and possessions you have, as well as the people in your life.
After journaling for a while, go back and read your journal entries to review your progress, relieve stress, and celebrate accomplishments. This structured journaling process can be completed in 5-10 minutes per day by following the three steps below:
- Choose a Format: If you prefer to write by hand, choose a physical journal; if you prefer to type, choose a digital application.
- Collect a Journal: Purchase a physical notebook (the Bullet Journal Method is recommended) or download your preferred digital application (like Day One, Evernote, etc.).
- Specify What to Write: Write to express gratitude, acknowledge your accomplishments, clarify your vision, and plan your next steps.
Seventh Chapter: The 6-Minute Miracle Morning
If you are having difficulty finding the recommended time for the Life SAVERS tools, you can do the Miracle Morning and reap the benefits in just six minutes per day:
- One minute (Silence): Sit in quiet, peaceful, and purposeful meditation, prayer, or deep breathing.
- Second minute (Affirmation): Read the affirmations to remind yourself of your purpose, potential, and top priorities.
- Three minutes (visualization): Close your eyes or consult your vision board to visualize yourself achieving your desired daily goals.
- Minute Four (Thankfulness): Journal about what you are grateful for, proud of, and how the day went.
- Minute 5 (Reading): To learn and incorporate a new idea into your day, read 1-2 pages of a self-help book.
- Minute Six (Exercise): Use jumping jacks, push-ups, and sit-ups to get your heart rate up.
Try not to limit your Miracle Morning to only six minutes every day, but rather only on the busiest days. At the very least, the six minutes will reinforce the habits of performing the six Life SAVERS and keep momentum going.
Eighth Chapter – Customizing Your Miracle Morning
Regardless of your background, you can design and customize every aspect of the Miracle Morning to fit your lifestyle and help you achieve your objectives:
Time to Get Up: Wake up 30-60 minutes earlier than usual to devote time to your Miracle Morning routine.
When Should You Eat: After that, eat something to keep your mind alert and focused during your Miracle Morning. If you must eat beforehand, keep it small, light, and easily digestible.
Why You Should Eat: Consider the health and energy benefits of the foods you eat just as much as the taste.
What You Should Eat: If you drink tea or coffee, you can begin brewing earlier. Consume a diet high in fruits and vegetables to maintain energy levels throughout the day.
Line up with Your Objectives: During your Miracle Morning, concentrate on your goals and dreams to accelerate your progress toward them.
Consume That Frog: Work on your most important or least enjoyable task first thing in the morning to get a head start on the rest of your day.
On weekends, do it: Experiment with doing your routine on weekends in addition to during the week.
Try something new: Adapt your Miracle Morning routine to keep it fresh, fun, and exciting as your schedule, situations, and projects change.
Irrespective of how you go about your Miracle Morning, you can set things up, personalize it, and develop it to fit your needs.
Ninth Chapter : From Unbearable To Unstoppable
James Clear writes in Atomic Habits (book summary) that “the quality of our lives often depends on the quality of our habits.” Habits are defined as “repeated behaviours that occur subconsciously.” Because habits are ingrained in us through repetition, many people struggle to form new good habits and break old bad ones. You can, however, transform your life if you are capable of learning, mastering, and controlling your habits.
With the right strategy, you can change any habit in a month. These 30 days, divided into three 10-day phases, will provide you with a strategy for forming new positive habits or breaking old negative ones:
Dreadful: Phase One (Days 1 – 10)
The new habit can be simple and exciting right after it is implemented. It quickly wears off, and the habit becomes unbearable. However, if you understand that the discomfort is only temporary, you will be able to maintain the habit.
Uncomfortable: Phase Two (Days 11-20)
During this stage, your mind develops trust and positive associations with the new habit. However, the habit still feels uneasy, so you must remain disciplined and committed to it.
Unstoppable: Phase Three (Days 21-30)
During this stage, you become unstoppable because your habit has become a part of your identity. You must consciously reinforce and associate positivity with your new habit, so avoid becoming arrogant or taking time off.
