1. One Indian Girl by Chetan Bhagat
The book is about a profoundly fruitful I-Financier, Radhika Mehta, who is attempting to track down a harmony among work and love in the man’s reality. She was raised to believe that her wheatish skin and excessive education made her unattractive to men, but she meets some amazing men who persuade her otherwise. However, they ultimately succumb to their own male chauvinistic belief that a girl cannot have it all and will need to make difficult choices to remain with them.
Radhika runs around in a frantic fashion and juggles everything she has to do throughout the book: her rising career, her shabby love life, her mother’s obsession with marriage, and her beliefs. She is independent, ambitious, and wants to get married to a man who doesn’t ask her to choose, like every Indian girl in 2016. She knows she can handle everything when the time comes, not because her career is more important than her family or vice versa.
Peculiarly, I could see myself in Radhika. With her, I shared laughs, tears, rage, and feelings of helplessness. It’s exhausting to be 25 and working in a big city to make a living. However, you keep a brave face and consistently show up to work. Life takes a piece of you when it hits you hard, like heartbreak and the pressure of an arranged marriage.
